The hidden cost

of Being Everything to Everybody

Discover the hidden cost of always saying "yes" – and how I learned to reclaim my life.

In 2009, the pressure of trying to be everything to everybody finally caught up with me. Burnout took hold, forcing me to step away from a successful 30-year corporate career. Then, in 2024/25, a series of personal events led me dangerously close to the same path once again.

In this powerful and honest signature talk, I share my personal journey through burnout—not once, but twice. I openly discuss topics that many advised me to keep private for fear of judgement, revealing how the relentless pursuit of success, approval and responsibility can quietly come at a significant personal cost.

I take audiences on the journey from believing I had life all figured out to facing unexpected challenges that changed everything in an instant. Through candid storytelling, practical insights and lived experience, I demonstrate how the hidden cost of constantly putting others first can impact our health, relationships, happiness and sense of purpose.

Most importantly, I share how I turned my life around—twice—and why I now choose to live as an "alternative millionaire": a life where less can truly mean more.

Audiences leave with a deeper understanding that burnout rarely happens overnight. It is often the result of small compromises made over time, and recovery can begin with equally small but intentional steps. By learning to step back before life forces us to step away, we can protect our wellbeing and continue performing at our best.

My message is simple: life is often far less complicated than we make it, and true wealth cannot always be measured by a bank balance.

I have been told this talk inspires, challenges and transforms the way people think about success, wellbeing and what really matters.
